Convention Speakers

The final list of convention speakers is still being developed. Changes will be made to this page and to the convention schedule as speaking positions are determined and confirmed by the convention committee.


Bob BarrBob Barr (Keynote Speaker)

Bob Barr represented the Libertarian Party as our 2008 candidate for the Presidency of the United States of America. On November 4, 2008 he received 523,686 votes, 0.4% of the national vote. This was the second highest number of votes nationwide that a Libertarian Party presidential candidate has received.

He is a former federal prosecutor and a former member of the United States House of Representatives (1995 – 2003). In the 2004 presidential election, Barr left the Republican Party and publicly endorsed our Libertarian Party presidential nominee Michael Badnarik. In 2006, he became a member of the Libertarian National Committee, serving as the Representative for Region 4 until 2008.

As one of his numerous projects, Bob is currently a weekly columnist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.


Bob SullentrupBob Sullentrup

St. Louis’s own Bob Sullentrup will welcome the delegates to the Gateway City. Bob has been the Party’s National Secretary since 2004 and Missouri State Chair from 2001 through 2005. Aside from the 1970’s when he attended college and graduate school at the University of Chicago, Bob has lived, worked and run marathons in and around the St. Louis area. Accordingly, Missouri’s Favorite Son will welcome Party delegates to St. Louis and take the Convention’s opening moments to point out the spots of local interest, history, culture and cuisine.


Sharon HarrisSharon Harris

Sharon Harris is president of the Advocates for Self-Government, celebrating its 25th year of helping libertarians become successful communicators of the ideas of liberty.

Sharon has been active in the libertarian movement for more years than she wants to reveal, but as a hint, she was a co-founder of the Libertarian Party of Georgia and cast her vote for the LP's first Presidential candidate, John Hospers, in 1972.

In 1994, she was the party's candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture, receiving over 300,000 votes.

Sharon will present "A Challenge to Libertarians: Step Out of Your Comfort Zone to Advance Liberty!"


BadnarikMichael Badnarik

Michael Badnarik was the 2004 Libertarian Party presidential nominee. He is the author of the book Good to Be King, a detailed examination of the U.S. Constitution.

He has visited many cities throughout America, teaching an "Introduction to the Constitution" class. He is currently active with the We The People Foundation.




MungerMike Munger

Mike Munger was the 2008 Libertarian nominee for governor in North Carolina. He received over 2 percent of the vote, which qualified the North Carolina LP for ballot access in 2010 and 2012.

He chairs the political science department at Duke University.





EarlCharlie Earl

Charlie Earl is the Communication Director of the Libertarian Party of Ohio and LP candidate for Ohio Secretary of State. He served in the Ohio House of Representatives in the early 1980s.

Having once owned two small market radio stations, Charlie believes in the spirit of entrepreneurship that has propelled the American economy. In addition, he has managed two low-power television stations and taught Mass Communication and Journalism at the college and university levels.
